Feeling Empty
Posted by Rebecca, July 18th, 2011
We took Darwin to the oncologist tonight. After discussing our options, we decided to leave him there overnight to begin chemotherapy.
There is a very small chance that he may not make it through this first round. The oncologist has had one cat that reacted badly and the chemo began to attack healthy cells. Hearing this made it extremely, extremely difficult to leave him there tonight. But we know that without trying this, he’s only expected to live several weeks. With it? He has a chance to make a full recovery. It’s going to be a very long and complicated road for us regardless, but we had to give him that chance. The form of cancer he has (renal lymphoma) is very aggressive and we didn’t have time to wait to start treatment or second guess ourselves.
Our hearts are empty tonight, missing baby D, wondering what he’s wondering about, wishing we could pick up the phone and talk to him.
I’ll probably be keeping it light around here this week. If anyone is interested in guest posting for me please shoot me an email at rebecca@thelilhousethatcould.com.
I’m so sorry to hear about Darwin. I can’t seem to find the right words to say right now. If you were here, I’d give you a big hug. I’m keeping Darwin in my thoughts and hoping for a full and speedy recovery.
You are doing everything you can for the lil guy! Such great parents!! xo. Stay strong! Praying for him
Wishing your kitty all the best. I’m a cat momma of 2, I know how you feel. ((hugs))
I’m a new reader to your blog but your sweet Darwin is in my thoughts.
You are doing the right thing by giving your baby the best chance he can have! Sending prayers and warm wishes from Illinois for a successful treatment for him…
Darwin is in our thoughts and prayers!!
So sorry to hear about your sweet kitty. Sending prayers your way for peace and healing for Darwin!
I know it’s tough leaving pets at the vet overnight, but it really is the best option for him, especially if there is a chance he could have a full recovery. I truly believe you’re doing this right thing. Hopefully this works and he’ll be back to his old self in no time!
I’m a new reader as well, and I’m so sorry that your furbaby is sick 🙁 I have 2 kitties in my family and love them dearly, so I know how you’re feeling. Hang in there – sending lots of prayers and good thoughts to your orange baby.
I just found your blog through the Mustard Ceiling link party and was so sad to read about your beautiful Darwin. I know I would be devastated if something happened to my beautiful dogs so my thoughts are with you.
Awww I’m so sorry 🙁
