lasagna and paint
Posted by Rebecca, December 29th, 2010
On Christmas Eve, we painted some random spots we had that needed touching up. I mentioned the holes from our curtain rod in my Christmas To-Do List post.
When Mike installed our new speakers (which he still needs to post about!), we got a new drill hole in our dining room wall. So we decided to finally break out the can of Benjamin Moore’s Waynesboro Taupe.
What a difference with some daylight, huh? š
Then into the dining room…
Thankfully, the touch up spots were flawless.
Since I love this paint color and it’s one of the few true taupe colors I’ve found, I decided to try a swatch for our bedroom. While Mike had roller in hand, I asked him to put a tiny bit on one of our bedroom walls. Then he did this…
He is laughing hysterically at me in this picture because after he rolled past the 2 inch mark I was like Wooooah! Hey! What the heck are you doing?!? I said a swatch!!! Apparently he has no clue what that means. Sort of like how I’ve been telling him since we moved to bend at the knees (we ended up in the emergency room with a pulled out back earlier this year) and just a few weeks ago he told me he had no clue what that meant. Oy!
So I currently have this on my wall…
And it’s definitely too dark. We actually have the lighter, neighboring shade from the color swatch (Himalayan Trek) in our entry way and upstairs hallway and it is way more gray than taupe. Anyone know a good light taupe color that’s not too gray and not too beige? We have a possible contender just beyond that door in the walk-in closet, which I am planning on finally sharing with you tomorrow!
Oh and this title? We painted and then made lasagna. True story. We’re trying to diversify our skills š
What if you took that taupe “swatch” (ha!) color and had it lightened 50 or 60%?
The title of this post had me wondering, until I read that last sentence. Then I laughed. Out loud. And quite loudly.
So is Mike going to be an audiophile and give us the nitty gritty of the brand of surround sound/placement of speakers/equipment? We’re going to upgrade once we get a house, but for now, the old-school Sony one we got going does a nice job as-is.
haha….threw the lasagna in the end there….hehehe…I’m more a aqua/blue girl myself…light greens/blues and white white white!! oh, and yes, totally too dark!! sorry no paint color ideas for you :/
We used Valspar’s Churchill Hotel Hazy Yellow (from the National Trust for Historic Preservation line) in our hallway and I love it. I think I also liked their Churchill Hotel Wheat and Woodrow Wilson Maize, just not for our hallway. I’d check out that line from Valspar.
I have a heck of a lot of tan/taupe paint swatch cards at home, so I might comment again tonight after looking at those.
Ok, so I forgot to comment back with more colors before now. I haven’t actually used any of these colors (and they’re all more tan then the yellowier shades mentioned above), but I love the swatches and would use them if I had more walls.
– Valspar Milk Toast
– Valspar Dust Bunny
– Valspar Cream in my Coffee looks really nice in certain light but slightly too green in others
– Valspar Cincinnatian Hotel Nichols Taupe
– Valspar Mesa Tumbleweed (& its lighter neighboring shade Desert Fortress)
Can you tell I love Valspar paint?
Awesome! I will check all of these out! Thanks so much!
ahahaha! threw the lasagna in at the last minute there!
the color looks great in the dining room!!!!
I bet it feels good to get those touch ups done and checked off your list! Good luck with picking the paint for your bedroom – that is not an easy task! I am loving the greyish-taupe though, I’d love to do that color when we buy a new house (which won’t be for a good long while).
I know this is late, but maybe it will hekp a future reader like me:) I was going with waynesboro taupe initially as well, but when I put it on the wall, it turned pretty purple, and was too dark. I used BM cotswald instead. It’s a bit more towards tan, but varies greatly in different light, from tan to taupe. In my bathroom, the cotswald turned purple like the waynesboro taupe did. So I think it may work for some people depending on their lighting and other room colors:) Hope this helps!
Iām happy I found this blog. Thank you for sharing with us.
